[In the butterfly collections from forest-steppes of South Ural and West Siberia to Enisej have rare specimens which are close to the south-european species Colias sareptensis Staudinger, 1871 (= alfacariensis Ribbe, 1905; australis Verity, [1911]). I can marked here a  status nova but in 1876 (Horae Societatis Entomologicae Rossicae, Sankt-Petersburg, 8: 153 – 154) S.Alpheraky “made” this taxon as a hybrid hyale X erate. S.Alpheraky think that sareptensis is “a constant aberratio from South and South-East Europa”. He wrote that males of sareptensis less than males of hyale, that colour of wings of sareptensis yellower often as in males of erate; black border of wings wider as in C. hyale. Females less than males; wing colour of females white with little yellowish tinge; black border in forewing up to anal border as in females of sareptensis longer than in hyale. Endly butterflies fly syntop and synchron. I’m sorry that the western authors used so many paper to the investigations in case alfacariensis – australis but not used publications of Russian authors]. So the conspecificity of alfacariensis and australis was not good maded, I use here the name alfacariensis.

Diagnose. This new subspecies distributes only in the Middle Asiatic part of Palaearctics. My materials was collected in the Kirghiz , Alai , Karzhantau, Transalai mountain ridges. It differs from the nominotypical one by the less size (in ssp. erate forewing length is 19.0 – 21.0 mm in males). Females in both subspecies differ by the brighter colouration in the new one. Males of the new subspecies have bright black marginal border (in the nominotypical one this border is unbright, greyish black).

[In the book of the Moscow collectors " Butterflies of Russia ", v. 1, 1997 appears, that callidice and American occidentalis are conspecific, and is similar only on this basis the McCinley subspecies nelsoni from Alaska give out for the inhabitant of tundra of Siberia, Far East, Kamchatka and Chukotka. To assume, certainly, everyone is possible, but the special experiences and conclusion about genetic incompatibility particularly between P. callidice and P. occidentalis nelsoni (W.H.Edwards, 1883) – look works of À.Ì.Shapiro (1975 et al.). And in general and the butterflies under numbers 10 – 12 on the plate 29 do not coincide with the image nelsoni on the plate 97 (No. 29) in the book W.H.Howe (1975)]. I believe, what not superfluous will result here following information. According to work Gary M. Marrone (1994: 233, 240), the nominotypical subspecies of  Pontia occidentalis in USA lives in state South Dakota . The subspecies nelsoni was described from the McKinley mountains  in Alaska , and differs from occidentalis so strongly, that it could be accepted for the specific level, if not the comparison it with callidice. As is shown by such comparison, nelsoni there is not that other, as the subspecies of circumpolar callidice, here again opinion of Y.P.Korshunov in a root is incorrect.

Remark. In the present work I leave the status kulyginskyi on conscience of the author of the original description, having changed only combination of this taxon – from daplidice in edusa. The business that daplidice does not live on South Ural, to what the publications of numerous western and domestic authors testify. I think also, that the author of kulyginskyi has described an aberratio edusa, however to check up it while I can not because of absence of a material.
